<h3>1. Health Assessment First</h3>
<p>Those with underlying medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, etc.) or severe obesity are advised to consult a doctor in advance to determine whether they are suitable for running. If you have a cold, fever, a flare-up of an underlying medical condition, or are overly tired, you should refrain from running. Pregnant women or those experiencing menstruation should adjust their intensity or refrain from running according to their doctor&#8217;s advice. Those who are sleep deprived or have consumed alcohol should avoid strenuous running. Check your joints (ankles, knees, and hips) for pain or stiffness, and your muscles (such as your calves and hamstrings) for strains. If you have existing injuries, consult a rehabilitation therapist to avoid further injury.</p>
<h3>2. Choosing the Right Equipment</h3>
<p>Running Shoes: Choose professional running shoes. Choose supportive (for flat feet) or cushioned (for high arches) shoes based on your arch type. Replace running shoes promptly if the soles are severely worn. New shoes need to be broken in (try them for 2-3 short runs). Avoid long-distance use directly to avoid friction damage.</p>
<p>Socks: Choose seamless socks or athletic socks to reduce the possibility of blisters.</p>
<p>Clothing: In summer, choose quick-drying, breathable fabrics to avoid cotton clothing that absorbs sweat and increases friction. In winter, dress in layers (with a wicking base layer, a warm mid-layer, and a windproof outer layer), and wear gloves, a hat, or a headscarf.</p>

<p>Recently, a new study suggests that people who struggle to walk even a kilometer have a higher risk of fractures.</p>

<h3><strong>A study has sparked widespread attention.</strong></h3>
<p>On January 23, the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open published a study conducted by the Sydney Garvan Institute of Medical Research, which found that people who cannot walk a kilometer have a higher risk of fractures.</p>
<p>The study included data from 267,000 adults aged 45 and older. By asking, &#8220;Does your health limit you from walking a kilometer?&#8221; with responses ranging from &#8220;not at all,&#8221; &#8220;somewhat,&#8221; and &#8220;very much,&#8221; the study investigated their walking ability and assessed their fracture risk. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to analyze the relationship between walking impairment and the five-year risk of fracture.</p>
<p>Over an average follow-up of 4.1 years, fracture risk increased significantly with increasing severity of walking impairment. Compared to those who could walk a kilometer without difficulty, those who reported having &#8220;significant limitations&#8221; had a significantly increased risk of fractures, with women in particular experiencing a 60% higher risk.</p>
<p>This study not only reveals the close link between walking ability and fracture risk but also emphasizes the importance of monitoring personal bone health. It reminds us that a decrease in walking distance or walking ability may be a sign of bone health problems, making the ability to walk a key indicator of bone health.</p>
<h3><strong>Understanding how walking can &#8220;uncover&#8221; health problems</strong></h3>
<p>Walking may seem like a simple, everyday form of exercise, but it&#8217;s actually a complex process involving the coordinated work of multiple body systems, including balance, leg movement, foot-ground contact, and forward center of gravity. These include the skeleton, muscles, nervous system, cardiovascular system, and respiratory system.</p>
<p>Walking encompasses more than just walking; it also encompasses household chores like cooking, washing clothes, and sweeping. Throughout this process, the cardiovascular system supplies muscles with oxygen and nutrients while also removing metabolic waste. The respiratory system regulates breathing rhythm to meet the body&#8217;s oxygen needs during exercise. For most people, walking 6,000 to 8,000 steps per day is a relatively suitable range (the average person walks about 1,600 steps per kilometer). Steps within this range can help improve cardiopulmonary function, enhance muscle strength, boost metabolism, relieve stress and anxiety, help manage weight, and reduce the risk of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.</p>
<p>Thus, gait, speed, and endurance during walking provide clues to assessing health status and can reflect a person&#8217;s overall well-being. Therefore, by observing and analyzing walking, potential health issues can be identified promptly.</p>

Inflammation in ulcerative colitis is typically confined to the mucosal surface. The peak age of onset is 20-49 years, with no significant gender difference. Common symptoms include persistent or recurring diarrhea, stools mixed with mucus and blood, accompanied by abdominal pain and a constant urge to defecate. Fever, malaise, and weight loss may also occur.<br />
The peak age of onset for Crohn&#8217;s disease is 18-35 years. Common symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in the stool, and may also include perianal discomfort, fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, and weight loss. The inflammation can permeate the entire intestinal wall, leading to serious complications such as intestinal obstruction and fistulas. It&#8217;s far more than just diarrhea. Data shows that approximately 30% of Crohn&#8217;s disease patients in my country present with perianal abscesses or fistulas as their first symptoms, which can be misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids.</p>
<h3>Myth 2: Is IBD a &#8220;diet-induced disease&#8221;? Can dietary restrictions cure it?</h3>
<p>Research shows that IBD is associated with genetic susceptibility, intestinal flora imbalance, and immune disorders, and diet is not a direct cause. However, high-sugar and high-fat diets can exacerbate inflammation, so patients should adjust their diet under the guidance of a doctor rather than blindly avoiding certain foods.</p>
<p>The low-FODMAP diet is a dietary plan designed for intestinal diseases like IBD. By limiting the intake of fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs), it reduces intestinal gas production and symptoms such as bloating and pain.
